Making Seoul Home: A British Long-Term Resident’s Life at Cove Seongsan

Matthias is in his late 20s. He was born in the UK and lived in the US for a while before moving to Korea. He did not come to Seoul as a tourist. He came to stay and make the city his home.

Moving to a new country for a long time usually means weeks of paperwork. Matthias wanted to skip that and start living right away. That is why he chose a long-term room at Cove Seongsan.

Moving in with no headaches

The move-in was easy, and that gave him a good first impression. The best part was how little he had to do.

“I really loved the kitchen and cooking facilities, and how easy everything was to get started, no broadband or utility contracts to set up.”

He had no contracts to set up, so he could start working on his first day. The kitchen was also important, because he cooks a lot. The room had everything he needed for it.

Why Seoul, why Seongsan

Matthias chose Seoul for many reasons. He loves its nature, history, culture, food, and events. He wanted a place where he could work hard and also explore in his free time. Seongsan was close to everything.

The location and the people

As a long-term resident, two things stand out to him: the location and the staff. He arrived with only basic Korean, so it helped a lot that the staff could speak English.

“I love the location, and the friendly, helpful staff who are very communicative and great with English, which was especially helpful when I first arrived with only basic Korean skills.”

A cook who skips the shared kitchen

Matthias cooks a lot, but his own studio room is enough. He rarely uses the shared kitchen. Still, he would like to use the bigger space sometimes, especially when friends visit and he can cook for everyone.

What every Cove resident gets

Matthias’s stay came with the same things every Cove resident gets. The room was fully furnished and ready on day one. The staff speak Korean and English. The deposit is low, and you can stay for less than a month or much longer, which is good for a long-term move. Neighbors come from many countries, so it feels like a community, not just a building.

What a perfect home means to him

For Matthias, a good home is simple: comfortable, convenient, and easy to settle into. Cove gave him that.

“A perfect home away from home is somewhere comfortable, convenient, and easy to settle into. Honestly, I already consider Korea my home now, but Cove definitely made that transition much easier.”

His last tip is to enjoy the parks and river walks nearby. They are a nice way to relax and get away from the busy city. For Matthias, Cove Seongsan made moving abroad much easier. He now sees Korea as his home, and the move felt natural.
